Cost Estimator/Operations Research Analyst

Cost Estimators apply the principles of operations research, mathematics and statistics to create cost estimates and risk analyses of major systems acquisitions. They calculate and forecast the future cost of systems, projects and resources and develop and analyze cost models and life-cycle cost estimates. Cost Estimators develop, document, present and defend cost estimations to decision leaders makers.

We are looking for a Cost Estimator/Operations Research Analyst to join our team. Applicants should have outstanding academic credentials in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or Statistics, along with exceptional analytic skills, strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Knowledge of or experience with U.S. Army operations is a plus. Qualified candidates retired from the Army are encouraged to apply.

The location of the position will be dependent upon the candidate. Candidates proximate to Army bases in Maryland, Florida, Michigan, and Alabama will be considered. Candidates located near one of our offices in New Jersey, Virginia or Ohio will be assigned to that office. Travel to Army bases and other customer sites is required regardless of the ultimate location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Demonstrate PRICE Systems cost estimating and analysis solutions at a high technical level
  • Determine customers’ requirements and propose an implementation that will create value for the customers
  • Provide technical support to PRICE Systems sales representatives
  • Perform training, data collection, calibration, mentoring, estimating and other tasks needed to complete a successful solutions implementation
  • Visit customers regularly to determine requirements for successful application of PRICE Systems software and to identify other customer needs which PRICE Systems can satisfy
  • Occasionally conduct cost research in support of product development
  • Solve client estimating problems convincingly and with quality
  • Create and deliver convincing arguments for PRICE Systems to prospective and existing clients in support of business development

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or Computer Science, or similar relevant discipline
  • Three years of experience in Department of Defense (or equivalent) acquisition or lifecycle program cost estimating
  • Background in systems engineering, cost estimating or cost management, especially experience using cost estimating software such as COCOMO, SEER, PRICE TruePlanning, ACEIT, Crystal Ball, @Risk or Pro-Pricer
  • Experience with cost estimating methodologies, cost estimating relationships and model development and cost databases
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Ability to read and write reports, white papers, blogs, technical training material and business correspondence. Will be required to demonstrate writing skills to be considered for the position
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
  • Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations, mentoring and training classes
  • Ability to think strategically and solve problems
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to travel extensively
