PRICE Systems Helping Military Families Through Fisher House™

Humanitarian Needs Are Met Beyond Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs

One moment, you know only pride and understandably a little concern for a spouse, father, mother, son or daughter serving in the military. The next moment, you learn that your extra special symbol of patriotism is hospitalized hundreds or thousands of miles away. It's a circumstance that all military families risk and some families must actually endure.

The Fisher House program recognizes the special sacrifices of men and women in uniform and the hardships military service can impose on families. Because members of the military and their families must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes" that are built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. Fisher Houses enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time-during hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury.

There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families with this important humanitarian need. The Fisher House program serves more than 8,500 families annually and is responsible for 1.5 million days of affordable lodging to supportive family members since 1990. Compared to commercial lodging facilities, families who may have otherwise been deprived have saved nearly $60 million dollars by staying at a Fisher House.

In addition to Fisher Houses, the Fisher House Foundation supports other humanitarian programs for military families. Through services provided by CaringBridge, families and friends of patients at any military hospital can receive up-to-the-minute reports on a loved one's condition by accessing the patient's personal web page.

There are also special programs for family members injured in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, scholarships for military children, and the Newman's Own Award, which recognizes volunteer organizations supporting Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve families.

"Raising contributions to Fisher House Foundation is one way PRICE Systems employees are demonstrating their support for our troops," said Larry Reagan, Vice President of PRICE Systems' Consulting Division in Arlington, VA. "Many of us either know or are part of military families, and we can readily identify with the needs Fisher House Foundation fulfills."

Fisher House Foundation is a not-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Donations are tax deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.
