The Keynote speech was delivered by Professor Rajkumar Roy, head of the influential Cranfield University manufacturing department who delivered an excellent talk on the need for investment in estimation solutions development and research in to new and exciting estimation developments including areas of obsolescence, new technologies and the dissemination of corporate knowledge across the organisation using the correct language that the consumer of the information was comfortable with.

Following Raj, Georges Teologlou, VP Price Systems International, delivered a review of the changing role of PRICE Systems in the world of cost management, detailed the new working methodologies that PRICES Systems and its clients are beginning to deliver to the recipient organisations ensuring that the best, most fiscally beneficial exploitation is made of the investment in collecting and analysing cost data supported by localised workstations dedicated to the needs of that special user role.

Andy Nicholls, Senior Executive Consultant, then disseminated new knowledge he had collected whist attending the ISPA conference the USA in June. H documented the differences in approach taken by the USA and UK Defence organisations to the current economic environment.

Following a short break Georges Teologlou presented awards for outstanding contributions to several individuals from both within the global estimation community and the PRICE Systems organisations. (To see images of this event visit our Facebook page!)

Is a Principal in the UK MoD and is responsible for a team forecasting early programme phase costs of Land and Weapons systems. He was a founder member of the specialist forecasting team using innovative techniques and developed early phase forecasting for budget setting purposes and has been instrumental in the development of the early phase modelling capability now known as True Concepts. He has also developed and implemented the ‘Training & development’ staircase for MoD cost forecasting staffs which lead through to accreditation.

Asia / Australia - Sheree Hancock

She has responsibility for building parametric models for maritime platforms, maritime refit programmes, Land Vehicles, Land & Sea based radars and many more projects and has had with some considerable degree of success. Mostly self taught, Sheree has ‘sold’ the advantages of parametric techniques to her immediate business and her competence has grown in tool usage. Her dedication to understanding the tools and processes needed to provide sound estimates is a lesson to us all and makes her a worthy recipient of ‘Parametrician of the year’.

Service excellent awards were also given to

Following refreshments the attendees were offered a tour of the historic grounds to see where the UK code beakers of World War II had undertaken their amazing work.

Tour of Bletchley Park

Customer day attendees including Price Systems International (PSI) staff were treated to a short tour of the Bletchley Park buildings by an experienced and knowledgeable volunteer guide. The tour began in the library at the Mansion with a brief history of how and why the facility was bought and established for £7500, and then proceeded around notable buildings that included a post office, dairy, pigeon loft and cottage where Alan Turing and others developed methods to crack the codes and ciphers, there was a short pause at the Polish memorial established to commemorate the role played by three courageous polish mathematicians before a viewing of the mechanical ‘Bombe’.

Individual huts were pointed out and the tour finished at the Bletchley souvenir shop and location of the thermionic valve computer that became the key instrument for decoding. PSI attendees then had time to spend at other exhibits before their return home.

Everyone agreed that the tour was made all the more interesting by the personal knowledge and touch of the volunteer guide. All in all Bletchley is recommended as well worth a separate visit.
