Software Life Cycle Estimating

This module (TPC 019 – Software Life Cycle Estimating) provides background and contextual information to assist the student in understanding how to effectively use TruePlanning® to create a software life cycle cost estimate. Included in this session is a discussion of key model relationships for developing a software life cycle estimate along with specifics of input parameters. The objectives of this session are for each student to:

  1. Realize the importance of developing a credible software life cycle cost estimate
  2. Understand the two software support activities: Maintenance and Adaptation
  3. Understand the meaning of “software maintenance” and what is included in the TruePlanning® Software maintenance activity
  4. Understand the meaning of “software adaptation” and what is included in the TruePlanning® Software adaptation activity
  5. Understand the key life cycle cost drivers and their associated functional relationships
  6. Understand the unique life cycle input parameters to derive either a ROM or detailed cost estimate in TruePlanning® Software
  7. Understand how the support cost multipliers (quality, defect detection, and repair level) influence the estimated effort (cost) and schedule
  8. Know where life cycle cost metrics and outputs can be obtained within TruePlanning® and understand how they are calculated, and know what they signify.
